Rooted in Rock Hall

For over 75 years, Ms. E's aunt and uncle lived in a house on a quiet street outside Rock Hall. As a young child, her mom would bring her over from Baltimore for visits in the summer, on weekends, and on many holidays. She has many memories of playing in and around the house. In a conversation with a Rebuilding Together Board Member recently, she recalled that she, “loved the freedom of the quiet neighborhood.” She and her sister would endlessly ride their bikes on the country roads nearby.

She moved to Rock Hall after graduating from high school and in 1982 bought her aunt and uncle's house. She raised her children there and created many more memories in her family home. In September 2003 Hurricane Isabel hit and Mrs. E’s was one of the many homes in and around Rock Hall that flooded. She remembers standing in the kitchen with water up to her knees. Although some people thought she should tear the house down, she felt "this was a place I always wanted to be" and she took on the many significant repairs.

Mrs. E lives on a fixed income and this old family home has ongoing needs that she is no longer able to manage on her own. Her main worry has been the leaking roof on the main part of the original home and Rebuilding Together was able to hire a contractor to replace it in late August of this year. Mrs. E shared that she recently had a major surgery and it has been helpful to her recovery effort to have the stress of a leaking roof removed. We are so grateful to be able to help neighbors like Mrs. E live in safer and healthier homes.
